Devlog 3 - Towards the Finish Line!

Made significant progress on my Split Keyboard, and shipping day is in sight!

Worked about 8 hours today (yes I forgot to record most of it) but it is what it is. I finally setup a repo for all my stuff. Better late than never!

Progress

  • PCB is done, except it needs some silkscreen art!
  • PCB has been panelized to make it easy to manufacture!
  • PCB Assembly (Left) in CAD is done
  • Case has been started, maybe another 60-90 minutes should finish up the job
  • BOM is done and it costs way more than I expected (Thanks Stardance!)
  • Repo is setup and public now! (working on readme)
  • IT HAS A NAME! Venturi or Venturi48, which I’ll be using interchangeably

Devlog 2 - A Fresh Start

Hello there! My project is a split, low profile, portable, wireless,
ergonomic keyboard (boy thats a mouthful). My goal is to create the
perfect keyboard for me, balancing comfort, interoperability with my
laptop, and more.

I started from scratch!

I went back to a new KiCad project and have already (in one day) caught
up to my previous progress with a more refined and organized product, so
its fair to say it was a good call.

I plan to finish the PCB tomorrow, and also finish the case for the KB.
One important goal is to decide on whether I want the 2 halves produced
together in one piece, or as 2 separate designs, so if anyone here has a
recommendation, please let me know!

This project has been an awesome learning experience, and I recommend making your dream KB as a perfect first PCB project :D

DEVLOG 1 (one):
After having finished deciding on components and layout, I moved to PCB design. I’d say im a third of the way through finishing this half of the keyboard! More specifics below.

Components:

  1. nice! nano - microcontroller designed for keyboards with built in wireless and BMS.
  2. KailH Choc V1 Linear - Low profile mechanical switches, likely red or pro red, not sure.
  3. Misc - Battery, connector, switch, and diodes will be pretty standard.

Pictured below is my progress as of writing. Note that I’ve spent way more than an hour on the project but only recorded about 1h.

Good luck with y’alls projects!
