Q Lab Website Updates

  • As a sysadmin for my school, I’m responsible for making, updating, and maintaining some of the school’s websites, including the Q Lab website, which has projects, information, and other stuff about our quantum physics senior research lab! :ultrafastparrot:
  • Some alumni of the lab already made most of the website, so in this update I just focused on adding some quality of life features and applying a redesign
  • Added new darker colors and some UI improvements, as well as new icons, logos, layouts, and content throughout the platform
  • Added project keywords and search to better explore and browse through different projects
  • Added options to delete and edit project assets
  • Fixed a few bugs related to the UI and updated the admin panel
  • Note that some of the admin/management features require our internal auth, but most of the stuff is publicly viewable :thumbs-up:
  • Since the entire website was written in Django (one of my least favorite frameworks) like 6 years ago, I spent a ton of time setting up a local dev env because of compatibility issues and refamiliarizing myself with the framework again, so I thought why not also put it on stardance now that I’ve accumulated quite some hours :smile-hehe:
