What I built

I wanted a new-tab page that looks like the rest of my site instead of a generic dashboard, so I built Hsoj-Tab: a clock, a search bar, news, shortcuts, and a todo list.

What was challenging

The news card gave me the most trouble.

• CORS: calling the news API from the browser fails, and the key would be exposed anyway. I moved the call into a SvelteKit +server.ts endpoint that reads the key from a private env var.
• No images: the list endpoint only returns titles, publishers, and timestamps. To get a thumbnail and some text, the server fetches the details of each story.
