DropFlow Devlog: The UI Glow-Up

Spent way too many hours today convincing DropFlow to stop acting like an endless, bottomless doom-scroll of a webpage and finally start behaving like an actual desktop app.

The Glow-Up (What Changed)

Ditched the single infinite-page layout for actual distinct screens. Now it doesn’t feel like scrolling through TikTok at 3 AM just to find a feature.

  • Dedicated Screens: Home, Scan Files, Organization, and Duplicate Analysis finally get their own personal space.
  • The Goated Back Button: Added proper navigation so you don’t have to manual-scroll like a Neanderthal just to move around.
  • Redesigned Home Screen: Drop in a folder, and it instantly gives you three clear, zero-bs options:
    • Scan Files
    • Organize Files
    • Find Duplicates
  • Juiced-Up Scan Screen: Now flexes your selected folder, total file count, breakdown by category, file search, category filtering, and a handy Clear Filters panic button.
  • Clicky Cards: The category cards actually work now—click Images, and boom, instant image filtering. No brain cells required.

Boss Fights (Problems Solved)

  • The Endless Scroll Nightmare: The old UI kept getting absurdly long every time I added a feature. Splitting the app into screens with a back button instantly cured my wrist pain.
  • Not Breaking Everything: Upgrading the frontend UI without completely nuking the underlying Electron logic for scanning and dupes was a whole mental workout. Kept the engine intact, just gave it a fresh paint job.
  • Data Amnesia: Navigating between screens kept trying to wipe out the selected folder and scanned files. Tested every back-and-forth path until the state finally learned to stay put.
  • Information Overload: Scanning a massive folder used to look like a chaotic wall of text. The new category cards and search bar make high file counts actually readable.

Current Vibe Check

DropFlow finally feels like a legit utility tool instead of a half-baked webpage. All core features are green-lit and running:

  • File scanning & categorization
  • Organization preview & conflict detection
  • File organization & duplicate analysis
  • Search, filtering, & actual app navigation
// Quick preview of the next focus area
const status = "Organization screen UI overhaul loading...";
