vertical hydroponic garden: the 45° plant socket

the project: a modular 3d-printed hydroponic tower where a single pump and a
single pipe water every level. no valves, no emitters. the shape of each part does
the irrigation. -
what i did today: set up the onshape document with a variable studio driving
every dimension, then modelled the socket test plate, a coupon carrying one 45°
tapered socket that a net pot wedges into on its own cone. -
what didn’t work: sketching directly on a 45° axis fought me for hours.
auto-constraints kept forcing lines horizontal, and dimensions kept measuring
vertically instead of along the axis. -
what i changed: gave up on that approach and built the socket standing straight
up, then tipped it 45° with transform. worked first time. -
what i fixed: exporting the step and reading the actual surface values caught
three problems the viewport was hiding. the 0.5 mm clearance step ran the wrong way,
so the pot would have jammed below the seat. the “straight” bore had come out slightly
conical. and the tube and bore were 0.55° out of coaxial. -
where it ended up: all three fixed. the seat now measures ⌀50.6 tapering to
⌀43.9 at 12.59°, exactly what the net pot needs to sit on.
