Hikari Devlog #1

Hello everyone, welcome to the very first devlog of Hikari!

Hikari - A recommendation site

So, this project is going to be a bit bigger, yes, even bigger than AniSuffle.

You can basically think of Hikari as a remake(from the scratch) + upgraded version of AniSuffle, while I will try to match the vibe of AniSuffle again here as well.

For those who don’t know, AniSuffle was my previous project anime and manga recommendation website that I worked on.

Unfortunately, it’s deleted now, and I can’t reuse the old code, so I’m going to build it again completely from scratch.

It will probably look somewhat similar to the AniSuffle, but this time, I’m planning to widen the range of uses , not limiting only to Anime and Manga this time.

Current Progress

Coming to the actual update, right now, even the basic layout isn’t ready yet tbh.

So far, I’ve mainly been experimenting with the design.

I’ve added:
[By the way the theme is going to be Glassmorphism(design credited on the GitHub Readme)]

  • Some buttons (with design)
  • A basic card
  • A poster inside the card
  • A title beside the poster

That’s pretty much it for now. =D

API Testing

For the API, I initially tried using Jikan, but it seems to be down right now.

So, I switched to AniList .

I’ll also add a video showing what the site currently looks like and how it works.

Multiple API Fallbacks

Later on, I’m planning to use multiple APIs as fallback options.

The main reason for this is that free APIs usually have limited requests, so instead of relying on a single API, I want to combine multiple available APIs and give ya all best experience as possible.

For anime API, I’m currently thinking of using:

  • Jikan
  • AniList
  • Kitsu
  • Shikimori
I will be adding shikimori for the first time, while i used remaining before as well. Lets see how it goes….

I’ll try to do something similar for the other types of content(manga, movie, video games, cartoons) as well.

It’s Not Just Anime & Manga

And this time, I’m not planning to stop at anime and manga.

Hikari is going to be something much bigger.

I’m planning to include:

  • Anime
  • Manga
  • Movies
  • Games
  • Cartoons

And I’ll try to add fallback APIs for all of them whenever possible.

I’ve already done some research on the free APIs that are available, and I’ll talk more about them when I actually implement them into the site.

So yeah, that’s pretty much it for the first Hikari devlog!

Currently, I’m using AniList, since Jikan doesn’t seem to be working right now.

I’ll add a video showing the current state of the site as well.

If you think anything was unclear, or I didn’t explain something properly, please do tell me in the comments. I’ll try to explain it there again.

Thank you so much for reading, and have a nice day! =)
