Spectralis devlog #31
—Hello again proggers—
More QoL, a real bug fixed in world editing, and a proper in-depth test run of the whole thing. Honest verdict after actually using it for real: still sucks, still hate it, but it’s at least somewhat usable now. Progress, technically.
“somewhat usable” is a real milestone when you started from “actively bad”
Cat or dog? node.isCorrupt
Okay let’s get into it~
—Yap—
World editing’s been the newer, rougher part of the studio since the Godot-inspired redesign in devlog #29. This round was about actually running it through its paces instead of just building on top of it, and that testing found a real problem.
—The Great Suffering—
1 — More QoL
Another pass of small quality-of-life improvements, continuing the trend from the last couple devlogs. Nothing individually huge, all of it adds up.
2 — The Bad Node Bug
Found and fixed a genuinely bad node bug in the world section during testing. The kind of bug that only shows up once you’re actually building real worlds instead of poking at an empty editor.
3 — The In-Depth Test Run
Took world editing for a real, thorough run this time instead of a quick sanity check. Built something with actual substance in it and used the tool the way it’s meant to be used.
4 — The Honest Verdict
Still sucks. Still hate using it. But after this round of fixes and QoL, it’s crossed into “somewhat usable” territory, which is more than could be said before this session.
low bar, cleared, moving on
—FAQ (no one asked these but they are here)—
Q: What is a “progger”?
A: A human programmer. You. The one who just admitted their own tool still sucks and shipped it anyway.
Q: Is world editing done now?
A: No, “somewhat usable” is the current state, not “finished.” More work ahead.
Q: How bad was the node bug?
A: Bad enough to matter, found through actual real-world testing rather than a quick check.
Q: Is this related to the layer work from devlog #30?
A: Different area — that was capsules/timeline, this is world editing specifically.
Q: What’s the plan to make world editing not suck?
A: Keep testing it for real, keep fixing what that testing turns up. This devlog’s the start of that loop, not the end.
—This is the end*—
*end for now, corrupted nodes permitting
