Spectralis devlog #20
—Hello again proggers—
Two zero. Milestone devlog, and it’s a good one: LTS is about to actually go out the door, Mac included, today.
we made it, barely, on no sleep, as tradition demands
Cat or dog? git revert HEAD7
Okay let’s get into it
—Yap—
Spent the whole night doing QoL and QA on all the tiny bugs that had been getting pushed aside devlog after devlog. Turns out “small bugs” and “easy to fix” are not the same category, and the whole night proved it the hard way.
—The Great Suffering—
1 — Hydra Bugs
Every single one of the small deferred bugs got patched, and every single patch spawned about three new ones in its place. Fix one, watch three grow back. Felt less like debugging and more like fighting something with a regeneration mechanic.
cut off one head, three more show up, name a more accurate bug report
2 — Tried Claude Code Out Of Exhaustion
Got tired enough mid-hydra-fight to set up Claude Code and hand off some of the grind. It did not go well — ended up rearranging the repo and commit layout in ways that made the history a mess, not the bugs.
3 — Had To Undo Its Commits
Rolled back what Claude Code did and went back to fixing things manually. Lesson for the night: handing off a messy, deep-in-it repo state to an agent mid-crisis is not the same as handing off a clean one.
4 — Actually Got All The Tiny Bugs Out
After all of that, the hydra’s actually dead. Every deferred small bug from the last 19 devlogs finally cleared in one sitting, which is the whole reason today’s release is happening at all.
5 — Mac Release, Today
Following up on devlog #19’s borrowed-Mac build attempt — releasing to Mac today alongside everything else. First real payoff from that session.
—FAQ (no one asked these but they are here)—
Q: What is a “progger”?
A: A human programmer. You. The one who fought a hydra of bugs all night and won, barely.
Q: Did Claude Code actually break anything functional, or just the repo layout?
A: Just history and commit structure, nothing shipped broke because of it. Still a mess worth undoing.
Q: Is this LTS build the one from devlog #19’s prep?
A: Yes, same one. This was the final QA gauntlet before it goes out.
Q: Is Mac really getting it today?
A: That’s the plan, following through on the borrowed-Mac build session from last devlog.
Q: 20 devlogs in, anything you’d do differently?
A: Sleep more, probably. Not going to happen, but it’d be the right answer.
—This is the end*—
*end for now, hydra heads permitting
