This Alien Doesn’t Exist - devlog 1

I’ve started working on This Alien Doesn’t Exist, a procedural generator that creates alien lifeforms from a single seed.

The idea was inspired by This Person Does Not Exist, but instead of AI, every creature is generated entirely through code. Give it the same seed and you’ll always get the exact same alien.

So far I’ve got the core generation working. It’s using seeded procedural generation, a spine-based body system, signed distance fields for the actual shape, procedural limbs, and basic lighting and colour.

One thing I really wanted to avoid was just stitching together pre-made body parts. There isn’t a library of heads and legs being picked from. The creature’s anatomy is actually generated from scratch.

Next I want to make the creatures way more varied before moving on to things like eyes, skin, horns and the other anatomical details. Hopefully they start looking less like blobs and more like actual alien organisms.
