#2 PCB Finalization
Wow! Designing my first ever PCB was a lot of fun even if there were many frustrating moments, here’s my progress on the macropad so far:

  • I learned how to set up a matrix layout, it was a lot of trial and error but eventually it clicked after consulting many different resources online (highly recommend the arduino forums 😭). I setup 3 rows and 3 columns and attached the end of each respective row and column to the seeed module.

  • Used GrabCad to source the missing 3D model step files for the switches and the module

  • Decided to expand 3x3 grid layout to improve the functionality of the keyboard, more shortcuts never harmed nobody

  • Added a rotary switch for precise volume control, mounting holes and custom silkscreens

  • Now measures 108.5mm by 88mm, passed ERC and DRC 🙌

Tip

  • You can ignore the DRC warning about a missing clipboard library, it often happens when pasting a silkscreen graphic and doesn’t affect your project

My Challenges

  • I’ve never done any soldering before, debating if I should look for alternatives like lead free solder paste (works with a hot air gun) or if I should just get a soldering kit

TODO: Learn how to use Fusion 360 and design the 3D printable case for the macropad
