I realized that the chip I initially used for the battery charging a and regulating the voltage to 5v was made for power banks and it required a signal or button press on one of its pins to continue providing power, so I replaced it with a chip actually made for a embedded device. I used a LP4060AB5F for the battery charging and a MT3608 for the boost converter. I only had time to wire the battery charging.
